    How do we follow through?

    Thursday, August 21, 2008, 06:51 PM [General]

If we can identify what it is we want to do and we identify why it is important to us, what is it that prevents us from following through? Only we know the answer to that question, but let’s see if we can shake things up a bit by trying this little exercise I like to call The Truth Game. Even though deep down inside I know the truth with respect to my lack of follow through, I have tried to convince myself that I am just too busy to do certain things because that seemed to make my lack of follow though a bit more acceptable. I can always MAKE time to do the things which are truly important to me, so why jump through hoops to try to trick myself? Do I think the energy required in pulling the wool over my own eyes is energy well spent?  Absolutely not. Obviously I care about being judged by myself. How ironic. The Truth Game prompts me to gather my thoughts and put them on paper (or computer) in order to expose what really IS. I will explain my point further, by using myself as a guinea pig. I do this exercise on a regular basis in order to keep my shortcomings in check and keep myself in the mode of keeping it real.

    1. Identify the topic at hand ---- I am aware of things in this world which seem unjust, I have causes which I believe in and I want to make the commitment to become a more active part of the solution - now.

    2. Describe why this is important to you ---- If I am capable of caring about something so much that it triggers off the desire in me to want to help, then that is a signal to me that I need to help. I no longer feel comfortable assuming other people will take care of things that deep down inside I know I should be doing. I know every little bit helps, so I need to become involved in whatever way I possibly can, even if I believe others may view my contribution as being minute. What matters most to me is that I am true to myself and that regardless of what I believe others may think…… I know I am doing my part.

    3. Describe your objectives ---- I will create an outline which will spell out exactly what I want to accomplish on a monthly basis. I will set reasonable goals in order to ensure that I will meet them consistently. I will document my intentions in a journal and review my entries on a daily or weekly basis. Upon review, if my inability to meet my goals becomes evident, I will reevaluate my goals and see whether or not I am living up to my full potential, or if my expectations were unreasonable. I will remember my cause, I will remind myself why it is important to me and stay on a comfortable path which will help me to succeed, not discourage me.

    4. Describe what you have done thus far to support your cause ---- I decided that I could make an impact in my community this month by focusing my attention on the local food pantries and thrift stores by donating things which could be used by other members of my community. My children helped me to gather items which were in excellent condition such as children and adult clothing, household items, dvds, sports equipment and toys,  and after a significant amount of research, we decided to donate them to Salvation Army Family Store in my neighborhood. Our items will be sold to members of my community at bargain prices and then 100% of the proceeds from these sales will be used to support the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center which is located next door. Our donations will make a big difference in the lives of many people. My children have grown so quickly and the clothing they have outgrown will help to outfit many children returning to school next month. I have been checking the supermarket ads and have allotted a certain amount of grocery money which will be used to purchase items for my local food pantry this weekend. I have watched the pet store ads and have allotted a certain amount of money which will be used to purchase items for my local animal shelter this weekend.  I will involve my children in the process as much as possible and we will deliver the items together.

    5. Describe how your involvement has impacted your cause ----   My involvement is making a difference in my community because so many people need help. Food pantry recipients appreciate the groceries the pantry provides, the animals at the local shelter will benefit from the nourishment I help to provide, the thrift store provides members of my community with reasonably priced clothing and household items, and the thrift store proceeds support the rehabilitation center which offers services to adults who need housing, food, medical care, counseling and work programs. I am providing nourishment, clothing and in essense contributing funding towards services which will help people in my community.

    6. Describe what impact your in volvement has had on you ---- My contributions are within my means and in addition to helping people and animals in my own community, this comfortable level of involvement is making a positive impact on my family as well. There have been times in my life when I could have used assistance. There were times in my life when feeding my family was a struggle. There were times in my life when I felt I had no place to turn. I will never forget what that felt like. By supporting centers and shelters in my neighborhood, we know we are making a difference in people’s lives and animals’ lives. Becoming involved is rewarding on so many levels because I know I am making a difference.

    The Proposal

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 04:51 PM PST [General]

This last Christmas started out like any other, Ratty hair, Pj's and a cup of coffe while I watched the kids get excited about the presents they were getting. (They already knew most of what they were getting) Stockings, Breakfast then presents. That is the way that we always do it. Damian and I had decided not get each other anything as money was really tight that year. We had jokingly told each other that our love was all that we needed. Damian didnt know it, but while out christmas shopping i had come across a really good deal on a mans wedding ring and could pass up the deal- I bought and had no idea of what to do with it because he hadnt officially asked me to marry him yet. So i hid it away in my drawer, trying to get up the courage to ask him! (I figured what do i have to loose right?) So here we are on christmas morning, opening presents and Damian hads me a box- about the size of a shoe box, wrapped with a bow on it. I said--"Hey we arent suppose to buy each other anything!!" He replied that it was just an empty box- but open it anyway for fun. I shook the box, and it certently felt empty, so for fun, I opened it. Inside there was only a letter that he had written to me- as I read it, my heart filling with love, my tears starting to well up and my throat getting tight--- There were only a few words on the page-- short and sweet (kinda cheezy too--lol)

    These were the words......
    Niki,
I had asked you to not get me anything this year, but would you say one word for me please?

The next page there was only one word printed on it...... it was

    YES!

Just at that time, he pulled the tiny black box out of his ratty ol robe and showed me the ring. My hands shaking, and tears in my eyes, all i could do was nod my head up and down. Reaching for the ring, he pulled it back and i then realized that i hadnt actually said yes yet!

"well are you going to say the word?" He asked. "Yes! YES! YES!!!!!" were the only words that would come out of my mouth as i reached to grab him to pull him closer to me.

This is how my love proposed to me after being together for 9 years-- Cheezy, sweet and absolutly perfect! I wouldnt have had it any other way

    Brief SC Rundown

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 06:46 PM CST [General]

I just got back from South Carolina with a friend. He has a client there who wanted some decorative painting work done.. I was luckily invited along!

We had great accomodations at our host's house in Bluffton , SC.

We went to Beaufort, an ocean-front town about 30 minutes from Bluffton. It's really a cute town, full ow character.. I heard that the Big Chill was filmed in an old house here. The houses are impressive.. but I heard they're even better in Savannah ( we saw just a little of Savannah. )

This is a picture of a live oak.. they grow up to 400 years old. And the arms on them can grow so horizontally or touch the ground.. and just contintue to stretch out. Sometimes they fill the hollow branches with concrete to keep them stable. The spanish moss ( I think that's what it's called), is everywhere on trees down there. Even on the palm trees. I suspect it pollinates itself and the pores are airborne, landing wherever they want to grow next. The trees don't mind much.

    Above: Me holding Spanish Moss.

Below: My friend and travel partner.

Below: Some sights at the beach of Hilton Head Island..

Above: This girl was funny to watch. She was trying to catch the sea gulls on the beach.. and got mad and raised her fist at them when they wouldn't cooperate. !

Below: It's that dorky guy you always see at the beach with his metal detector looking for his fortune.

Wins at Norwalk, Ohio and Bristol, Tennessee add up to World Championship!!!!

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 06:45 PM CST [General]

Managed to eeek out a win at the Norwalk, Ohio Fun Ford Weekend race and added a convincing win at the Bristol, Tennessee FFW race to lock down first place in the Ultra Stang points championship.  I arrived last weekend at Epping, New Hampshire for the eight race in our schedule.  Once I completed my tech inspection I was told to go see the race director in the tower.  Hhhhmmmm.....ok.

Once I got there I was greeted by FFW's race director "Pinto".  He asked if I had completed the tech inspection.  I replied, "Yup."  He shook my hand and said, "Congratulations...you are officially the 2008 Fun Ford Weekend Series-Ultra Stang World Champion."  I said, "Hell Yeah!"

The tech points were enough to officially lock down the championship.  We still have one non-points earning race in Fontana, California and then our last race in Ennis, Texas.  There is a special satisfaction knowing that you have won the title and still have two full races left in which to earn points.  The Epping race did not have the ending I was looking for but I did leave there with a runner-up finish.  I really have to thank my main sponsor Team Performance Products for this season.  Without their substantial financial help none of this would have been possible.  They also manufacture the twin turbocharger system on my 2007 Mustang GT which enables me to run the low eleven second times and over 125 mph charges while keeping the stock engine intact and running reliably.

A special thanks also goes out to Strictly Performance in Houston, Texas.  Richard, Matt, and the whole damn crew are the best performance shop in town and work with me each season to bring home these titles.  You just can't beat their knowledge and expertise.

Doug Studdard of BamaChips is responsible for the tuning on this computer controlled monster and he is an absolute genius.  With his tunes in the car I have one of the most consistent performers in the country.  I highly recommend his services to everyone.

So....what's next?  I still have to go win the Fontana show and, of course, win here at home in Texas for the final race.  Next season........not sure yet.  We have a meeting set up at the Fontana race to discuss just that topic.  But for now..........we've got the championship and we have THE car to beat in this series.

    LOS INVITADOS

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:40 PM EST [General]

    5 Pero ellos no tuvieron en cuenta la invitación, y se fueron, uno a su campo, otro a su negocio;

    The Tree Blending Meditation

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:38 PM EST [Meditation]

Take a trip into the woods, and commune with the spirits there.....

CLICK HERE FOR Witchy's Wikked Graphix

FEEL THE MAJIK -  WITCHY'S WIKKED GRAPHIX

    TREE BLENDING MEDITATION

™   May take a ritual bath using herbs of rosemary, sage, thyme, marjoram and green and viney scented rather than floral soap. (Mulberry, herbal, apple, pear or berry scents are good)

™   Have:  a soft blanket to sit on, a tree that feels receptive, a picnic lunch with food and beverage, a pail of water and perhaps plant food as a libation, a ribbon or other lightweight decoration that can be left on a tree limb.  Wear loose comfortable clothing.

™   Walk around the tree and see which part seems to be the “face” or the front of the tree.

™   Spread blanket on the ground in front of the tree, ground and center, then walk around the tree deosil casting the circle.

™   Sit in a meditative state facing the tree.

™   If pre-recorded, allow time for each action suggested in this meditation.

™   Look at the tree and note its general shape and foliage, the spreading of it’s limbs and the atmosphere surrounding it.  Compare it against the background and look for the tree’s aura, the glowing light that envelope the tree.  A white to pale blue aura indicates a loving, peaceful and sympathetic tree.  Yellow shows energy but if it is tinged with brown this could indicate that the tree doesn’t feel well.  Red shows an active tree that is interested in what happens in its surroundings and is possibly alert to dangers. Green tinged shows fertility and connection with the wilderness spirit.  A purple aura shows a spiritual connection, but if violet the tree could feel hostility and need soothing before continuing with the meditation.  You may want to offer the libation of water and fertilizer at the tree roots before rather than after this visit.  Watering the tree, nurturing the tree, adding fertilizer when it seems to need it or planting a companion for the tree are all ways of soothing and establishing you acquaintance with the tree.  Leaving a token of your esteem, decorations or delicate wind chimes are ways of reaching out to the spirit of the tree to let it know that it is appreciated and loved by you.

™   As you sit before the tree, see the way it sets into the ground.  Are the roots spread out, does the trunk seem to simply dive into the earth?  Visually examine the texture and grain of the bark.

™   Remain on the blanket but feel yourself move closer to the tree.  See from the perspective of the tree that it is observing you as you have observed it.  Look for a crevice in the bark and visualize yourself sliding into that crevice.  Feel the texture of the trunk, strong and able to support the weight of the branches and foliage, heavy upon the core that is the tree’s body – your body.

™   Fluids course up and down your interior.  You feel the gentle motion of tiny insects making their homes about your outer skin – the bark.  Move you attention upward and feel yourself extending into the branches. You are moving in a multitude of directions, spreading upward to form a single entity with consciousness in your branches, a myriad of thin twigging and stems, attached to the slightly subtle open leaves.  Buds are encased about to open with the sunlight, but other leaves are spread and you are aware of the Sun activating the cells of your greenness.

™   There, far below, someone is sitting on a blanket, trance-like, gazing at the tree.  Ah, that is you.  The tree senses the “not tree” within and gently directs you back through the twigs and down to the wider branches.  You pause to feel the scratch of a bird’s nest and smile with admiration at its construction.  Now you turn around the main trunk and feel the narrow gap in the trunk, a rounded opening in the trunk with a woody interior.  You wrap yourself into that interior and feel the sensation of comfort, security and home.  It is a nest for a squirrel family.  Now you are aware that your limbs are being groomed.  Tiny beaks poke into your bark and snatch away insects roaming along your skin.  You continue downward through the heartwood of the tree feeling the liquid nourishment passing upward and down again around the outside of the solid core.

™   You are back at the main trunk, standing upright there, seeing you seeing back.  You smile and feel the tree relax in a sensation of camaraderie.  It wants to show you something.

™   Now you feel your toes, your roots, and the featherings of your roots deep in the Earth. You let yourself travel downward still, past the level of the ground and into the soil.  Your texture changes here and you realize with a warm glow that you are being entrusted with a journey into the most delicate part of the tree – it’s defenseless roots, that surround the heart of the living tree.

    ™   The tree tells you:

“Harm the root, and you kill me.  Cut the bark all around and the food of the soil can not reach the rest of me and this too would kill me.”

™   You tremble with the knowledge that this tree has shared with you.   “I am mighty and strong but there is always danger in life, even one that lasts a long as centuries”

™   You send your thought to the tree “all life comes to an end”.

™   The tree smiles and indicates again the roots.  You feel the smooth moist roots with their bristly fibers and hairlings drawing nourishment from the surrounding soil and then you see them, the children of the tree.  Little fingerlings and seedlings, pods awaiting to open and you know the tree before you confides in you.

There is no ending to life only transformation

™   And you know this is true, for never did a tree not speak true.  Listen to what else the tree has to say to you.

    Pause

™   You take one more look at the soil deep beneath the surface of the Earth, feel how your feet spread, wrapped around the rocks with little creatures sliding around the featherings of your roots.  You move back up the woody trail, back to the surface of the earth where grasses play in the breeze at you Earth level roots and a bee buzzes past you looking for a flower.

™   Seeing yourself again you slide from out between the edges of the bark and back into your body.

™   You take a deep breath, hold it a moment, then exhale, another deep breath, exhale and you return to full awareness.  Stand up and take the pail of water and fertilizer and gently splash it around the roots of the tree.

Tough your heart with you hand, then the tree trunk, your third eye region and again the tree trunk.  This is the blessing, given and received.  You may now sit and eat the picnic meal and drink a cool beverage.  When finished walk around the tree widdershins drawing the energy of the circle back within.  Touch palms to the ground to drain off the excess energy and leave your token ribbon or other gift before you depart.
